How to Know Three Places Your Car May be Checked for Insurance Cards in New York

Don't you wish you knew what areas the Police were shaking down innocent people for things like not having your insurance card in your car and whether or not the NYS Blue inspection sticker was up to date beforehand? That $90.00 ticket plus surcharge fee can really set a sister back!

What you need

An awareness of where you are when you are on Long Island and Queens, NY.

Step One

The Ronkonkoma Walmart on Veteran's Memorial Highway in Islandia in the Islandia Centre has a side street on the right hand side called Sycamore Street. If you are going in either direction on Sycamore Street if the Police set up a check there you may be pulled over and ticketed for not having your insurance cards with you in the car or having an expired blue New York State Car Inspection Sticker. If you see that traffic is backed up on this street when you leave the Walmart Parking lot just turn around and head toward the Long Island Expressway to go home or you can go back to Veteran's Memorial Highway and go one more street north of Sycamore and go south on that street to get to Suffolk Avenue if that is where you were headed.

The Police setup usually occurs between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. when people are trying to get home from a long day of work so be extra vigilant during those times, you know?

Step Two

Highland Avenue in Queens near the high school on Highland Avenue is a high ticket area. Also, there are lots of truant officers patrolling the area in unmarked cars to make sure the high schoolers do not roam the streets when they should be in class. There are alternate side parking rules in effect and you have to move your car early in the morning before 6 a.m. or overnight to avoid a $130.00 ticket.

The alternate side parking rules are there so that when the big street cleaning machine comes through at 6:00 a.m. there are no cars there and the machine can do their job of cleaning the streets effectively.

This area has police on foot, on bikes and in marked and unmarked cars. Sometimes they set the police check up at the bottom of Highland Avenue near Parson's Boulevard and sometimes it is up higher on Highland Avenue closer to 168th street or right in front of the High School on Highland Avenue.

These police checks happen during the day between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Step Three

Also watch yourself if you are a good looking, young white male who dresses in hip-hop, blingy and cool clothing as the Drug Prince who controls that block which is Highland Avenue right off of Parsons Boulevard may approach you to sell drugs. They have drug lieutenants scouting the area. I know this because they grabbed a friend's husband one day and tried to get him to sell drugs but he didn't because my friend begged him not to and also his English wasn't that good at the time so that may have also been a reason why he didn't do it. So just be aware in that area.

Step Four

The Long Island Rail Road on Sutphin Boulevard in Queens is another racial profiling police area. What they do is they wait until 11:30 to 12 midnight at night up to say 5:00 to 6:00 a.m. and stop all the cars going south on Sutphin Boulevard during those hours. They check cars for insurance cards, New York State inspection stickers and so on and they do catch a lot of people with this police checkpoint.

In addition, there is a police station inside the Long Island Rail Road building just so you know.

Step Five

I'm sorry Miss Jackson, but I am for real...

Dirty Girl [Explicit]
comedy central's self-professed insult comic lisa lampanelli's act reminds me instantly of an old "in living color" sketch in which kelly coffield appears as "andrea dice clay" (a female version of the much-maligned comedian andrew "dice" clay), brash and pottymouth'd and built to shock. but really she's only a meaner carlos mencia. people didn't understand that "dice" was a stage character being played by an actor, which leads me to wonder if lisa is doing the same thing or not. one thing's for sure in my opinion: it's not a radical act to "be just as filthy as the guys are" when you step into an arena dominated by males. women are smarter and should know better. that's why after hearing lisa's record i think she has more in common with condoleezza rice and ann coulter than any dirty male comedian.

Sick & Tired [Explicit]
I saw Wanda Sykes for the first time when she appeared recently on the Ellen Degeneris show. She made me laugh out loud so I ordered this CD to hear more from her. I wasn't disappointed. She is absolutely hysterical. She tells stories completely from a woman's perspective so this may not appeal as much to men. Also, there are sections that are pretty graphic and pretty raunchy but very funny. Not for you if you take offense at foul and sometimes graphic language. All that being said I laughed and laughed and laughed while listening to this CD. Lots of fun!

Are Cops Racist?
Yet an anti-police stance has pervaded the media in recent years, particularly in The New York Times, she says. This bias, combined with suffocating federal regulations, brought about by both the Clinton and the Bush Justice Departments, threaten to reverse the progress made. It also causes unnecessary friction between police and the public, makes neighborhoods less safe, and even dissuades officers from fighting crime aggressively for fear of being labeled a racist. In instances where the police were clearly in the wrong--most notably the much-publicized and tragic Amadou Diallo shooting--Mac Donald posits that these are isolated cases of poor judgment and failure to follow procedure rather than evidence of systemic racism.
